This is a beautiful scenic body of water located off of route 601 between Hollsopple and Jerome, Pa. Also known as the Quemahoning Reservoir, it was originally built as a water supply for Somerset and Cambria county area's and owned by The Manufacturers Water Company of Johnstown (TMWC). The dam, located about 10 miles south of Johnstown, has a storage capacity of 12.4 billion gallons, and is capable of supplying 62 million gallons per day to customers. The Quemahoning site also includes about 3,500 acres along with the former Bethco Pines, a recreational area with facilities for boating, fishing, skeet shooting and other activities. Constructed in 1912, the lake has been officially closed to public angling and, as such, has never been studied by the Commission. In 1999, Area Fisheries Management 8 personnel conducted a lake inventory to quantify and qualify the lake as a fishery and to develop a fisheries management plan for implementation when the lake is open to public use. Bethlehem Steel Corporation announced Nov. 19, 1998, that it has agreed to sell the Manufacturers Water Company of Johnstown (TMWC) to an authority to be formed by the commissioners of Cambria and Somerset counties. The counties plan to use the land and water resources for drinking water supplies, and future recreation and economic development. It is managed by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission manage for warmwater, coolwater and coldwater species. Many people come to this area for scenic outdoor photographs, especially during the autumn season. Parking area's are provided with quick access to most fishing area's. Please refer to the Quemahoning Regulations page for more information.
