One of Pennsylvania's greatest legends, the aus Haus. Some of us are still fortunate to have one. Some of us have no clue what it is. It has numerous qualities such as air conditioning, in some cases, separate facilities and always something to entertain. Its noted for its recycling and composting abilities, uses no utilities and remains a landmark across America. What is it? In  Pennsylvania Duetch, Scheißehaus, means "out house".

BigDamFish.Net would like to get side tracked for a moment from the usual "sporting" outdoors theme and just go straight to the "out doors". Collectors of memorabilia are sure to have a section on aus Haus meaning someone must have some original pictures. Bossy Bass of BDF happens to still have an aus Haus at her Haus. From what I understand, they use it. I thought it was a rumor but have since obtained from Bossy pic's of the legendary vessel.

The reason for this page is to gather pics from the owners of remaining out houses in America. There are many pictures of out houses on the internet but there can never be too many.  If you have an outhouse your fond of, send us the pic. Let the nation see how Pennsylvanians or any other state in America got the reputation for being "creative". Anyone born around the time Old Jim was, remembers those winter runs and the flies that were your true companions during the hot days of summer. The fragrance alone lingers on in our memories for decades. Not to mention all the wonderful bonding with other people that took place in the two-holers.  Aaaaaaah.....True Americana.

Let us post them on this page.  Hard to believe but people do find an interest in this sort of thing and have a curiousity as to how we lived before the invention of what we so fondly refer to as the "john". Consider it an "educational" page for the younger crowd.

An interesting fact: When someone cuts a good one in a crowded elevator or bus, the waft can be almost suffocating. Did you know: For hundreds of cattle on long voyages across the globe, such gassy emissions have been lethal. Cows fart themselves to death by emitting fatally high levels of ammonia during the lengthy trips. In the cramped, hot and poorly ventilated cattle holds, the ammonia-rich gas can quickly cause respiratory problems and death. A cause for concern was raised last year when one voyage found fatalities to 900 cows. So, next time you have to let one rip in a small, crowded area, you might want to try to hold it in till the coast is clear..... you could be saving lives!!!!
